Community Service Program: Bringing AI to English Teachers in Sanggau Ledo

The English Education Study Program (PSPBI), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Tanjungpura, successfully conducted a Community Service Program (PKM) at SMPN 3 Sanggau Ledo, Bengkayang, from October 16 to 18, 2025.
This program was part of the university’s commitment to share knowledge and technology with local schools and teachers. The activity carried the theme “Utilizing Artificial Intelligence for Developing Student-Centered Learning for Junior High School English Teachers in Sanggau Ledo District.”
The event was led by Wardah, M.Pd as the Head of the PKM team, involving three PSPBI students, and featured five speakers who shared valuable insights and knowledge on AI and English language education:

The activity was warmly welcomed by Mr. Agusno Sumantri, S.Pd, Principal of SMPN 3 Sanggau Ledo, and Mr. Joko Leo, S.Pd., M.Pd, Head of the English MGMP Bengkayang. Their encouragement motivated both the speakers and participants throughout the event. Special appreciation was also given to Mr. Fajar, S.Pd, for his hospitality and kind help in preparing the venue and facilities.
One of the highlights of the program was the enthusiastic response from the participants. The English teachers from Sanggau Ledo and nearby schools showed remarkable interest and curiosity. They actively participated in discussions, asked practical questions, and shared their own classroom experiences related to technology use. Many teachers expressed excitement about learning new digital tools and discovering how AI can support creative and student-centered teaching.
During the workshop sessions, participants worked together in small groups to try out AI platforms, design sample lesson ideas, and reflect on how to integrate technology into their daily teaching. Their energy and engagement created a positive and collaborative atmosphere throughout the event.
Several teachers mentioned that the workshop gave them new confidence and motivation to innovate in their classrooms. They felt that learning about AI was not only relevant for today’s education but also empowering for teachers who want to make learning more interactive and enjoyable.
Overall, this community service activity became a meaningful collaboration between the university and local schools. It reflected PSPBI’s strong commitment to empower English teachers, promote innovation, and support the development of education in West Kalimantan. 🌿✨
