A History of Excellence: English Language Education Study Program

The English Language Education Study Program has a rich history, evolving alongside the institutions that housed it. Its story begins on September 28, 1965, when it was established as the English Department, a branch of IKIP Bandung. This initial establishment was based on the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 8008/Sekret/BUP/65 and placed the department within the Faculty of Teacher Training in Arts and Letters (FKSS).

In 1969, a significant shift occurred. The department was integrated into Tanjungpura University, becoming part of the Faculty of Teacher Training. This integration was a result of the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No. 161/1967, dated December 16, 1967.

A further transformation took place on March 4, 1983. The Faculty of Teacher Training and the Faculty of Education merged to form the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP). This merger, mandated by the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 20418/C/1983, restructured the faculty into four departments:

  1. Department of Educational Sciences (IP)
  2. Department of Social Sciences (IPS)
  3. Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA)
  4. Department of Language and Arts Education

The English Language Education Study Program found its home within the Department of Language and Arts Education, where it continues to thrive. Today, the program stands as a testament to its enduring commitment to quality education, having achieved “UNGGUL” accreditation from LAMDIK, placing it among the select few study programs to reach this prestigious level of recognition.
