FKIP UNTAN Strengthens Students’ Research Capacity through Research Methods Training
Pontianak, Indonesia — October 11, 2025
The Department of Language and Arts Education (PBS), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura – UNTAN) successfully organized a Community Service Program (PKM) entitled “Research Methods Training for PBS Students” on Saturday, October 11, 2025. The program aimed to enhance students’ understanding of research methodology and strengthen their skills in designing academic research projects.
The event was led by Yanti Sri Rezeki, M.Ed., Ph.D., Head of the English Language Education Study Program, who also served as the Chairperson of the PKM Team. The initiative brought together lecturers and academic leaders from across PBS, including Dr. Agus Wartiningsih, M.Pd (Head of the PBS Department), Prof. Eusabinus Bunau, Ph.D. (Professor and Department Secretary), Drs. Ahmad Ra’biul Muzammil, M.Si. (Head of Indonesian Language Education Study Program), and Nurmila Sari Djau, M.Pd. (Head of Performing Arts Education Study Program).
More than thirty students from four study programs—Indonesian Language Education, English Language Education, Performing Arts Education, and Mandarin Language Education—participated enthusiastically in the training.

The session began with two keynote presentations:
-
Qualitative Research and Key Concepts, delivered by Prof. Eusabinus Bunau, Ph.D.
-
Research Proposal Writing, presented by Drs. Ahmad Ra’biul Muzammil, M.Si., and moderated by Yanti Sri Rezeki, M.Ed., PhD.
Both sessions provided students with conceptual and practical guidance on how to formulate research topics, select appropriate methodologies, and design structured research proposals.

In the practical component, students engaged in hands-on activities to design research frameworks covering topic selection, research design, data collection methods, data validation, and analysis techniques. Each group presented its proposal draft and received constructive feedback from the panel and peers.
“In class, students usually study research theories inductively,” said Yanti Sri Rezeki. “Through this PKM program, they practice them deductively—learning by doing, guided by experienced lecturers.”

The event concluded with reflective discussions emphasizing collaboration, academic rigor, and the importance of integrating research-based learning across study programs. The initiative demonstrates FKIP UNTAN’s ongoing commitment to cultivating globally competent educators and promoting interdisciplinary scholarship.
