Studium Generale 2025: Reimagining Future Identities for Global Citizenship

On Monday, 17 November 2025, the English Language Education Study Programme of Universitas Tanjungpura held its annual Studium Generale at the E-Learning Room of the Conference Building. The event ran from 07.30 to 17.00 WIB and was attended by around 100 students from the 2024 cohort, alongside lecturers and academic leaders from the programme.

The opening remarks by Urai Salam, M.CALL., PhD emphasized the faculty’s mission to prepare students as competent, globally minded educators and practitioners.

Socialization Session by Yanti Sri Rezeki, PhD

Programme Coordinator, Yanti Sri Rezeki, PhD, presents the programme’s scientific vision, objectives, and graduate profiles.

The programme’s vision and objectives were delivered by Yanti Sri Rezeki, PhD, who emphasized the study programme’s commitment to preparing graduates as:

  • English teachers for Junior and Senior High Schools

  • English practitioners ready for diverse professional environments

Also present were lecturers and academic leaders including Dr. Gatot Sutapa, M.Pd., Prof. Eusabinus Bunau, and Drs. Luwandi Suhartono, M.Hum, whose involvement added depth to the academic atmosphere.

Keynote Delivery by Prof. Dr. H. Ardi Marwan, S.Pd., M.Ed

Prof. Ardi delivers his keynote presentation on empowering English students for global citizenship, sharing international experiences and career pathways.

The highlight of the Studium Generale was the keynote address by Prof. Dr. Ardi Marwan, S.Pd., M.Ed., an alumnus of the 1997 cohort and the first English professor at a polytechnic in West Kalimantan.

His keynote, titled:

“Reimagining Future Identities: Empowering English Students for 21st-Century Global Citizenship”

offered students a forward-looking perspective on how English graduates can build impactful global identities.

Prof. Ardi discussed:

  • Career opportunities at the SMP/SMA level

  • International prospects such as working as local embassy assistants

  • Essential competencies: IELTS > 6.5, PBT TOEFL > 580, academic writing, research skills

  • The importance of publishing at least one journal article as first author

His experiences and guidance provided strong motivation for students to elevate their academic and professional goals.

A Motivating Push for Future English Professionals

Throughout the event, students expressed strong enthusiasm and motivation—particularly after engaging with Prof. Ardi’s insights into global academic and career readiness. The Studium Generale succeeded in reinforcing the programme’s commitment to nurturing knowledgeable, articulate, and globally competitive English educators and practitioners.
