A Milestone for English Language Education: Urai Salam, M.CALL., PhD Elected Dean of FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura for 2026–2030

Pontianak, June 3, 2026 – Urai Salam, M.CALL., PhD, a senior lecturer from the English Language Education Study Program, was elected Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Tanjungpura, for the 2026–2030 term following a senate election held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
The election process took place during a special meeting of the FKIP Senate, attended by senate members, faculty leaders, and invited participants. Prior to the voting session, both candidates, Urai Salam, M.CALL., PhD and Dr. Muhammad Basri, S.Pd., M.Pd., were given the opportunity to present their vision and mission for the future development of FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura.

During the presentation session, the candidates outlined their strategic priorities and leadership programs, addressing key issues related to academic excellence, research productivity, educational innovation, student development, institutional governance, and community engagement. Members of the senate subsequently evaluated the candidates’ proposed programs before proceeding to the voting stage.
Following the vote count conducted by the senate, Urai Salam secured 18 votes, while Dr. Muhammad Basri received 16 votes, giving Urai Salam a two-vote margin and confirming his election as Dean of FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura for the next four-year leadership period.

Prior to his election, Urai Salam served as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura. Throughout his academic career, he has held numerous leadership positions within the faculty, including Head of the English Language Education Study Program, Coordinator of the UNTAN E-Learning Platform, Head of the Master’s Program in Educational Technology, and Head of the Doctoral Program in Education. Since 2023, he has served as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, contributing to academic quality assurance, curriculum development, and institutional advancement within the faculty.
An alumnus of the English Language Education Study Program at Universitas Tanjungpura, Urai Salam earned his Master of Computer-Assisted Language Learning (M.CALL.) from Melbourne University, Australia, and later completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Virtual Education at Monash University, Australia. His academic expertise includes Artificial Intelligence in Education, Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL), Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for English as a Foreign Language (EFL), English Language Teaching (ELT) Multimedia, Educational Technology, and Critical Studies in Education.
The election represents a significant milestone for the English Language Education Study Program and the Department of Language and Arts Education. As one of the faculty’s distinguished scholars in language education and educational technology, Urai Salam’s appointment reflects the growing contribution of language education academics to leadership roles within FKIP Universitas Tanjungpura.
